Have you ever wondered what happens after you click ‘buy’ on Amazon? Come and have a look for yourself by attending one of our public tours.

During the tour, visitors will have the chance to take a close look at the daily job of employees at work, as well as observing many of the key processes and technologies of the fulfilment centre, from picking – retrieving ordered items from the shelves – to packing, where items are carefully parcelled up in Amazon’s famous brown boxes before being sent on their way to customers. The visit also touches on topic of modern technologies and processes, including protection of environment as Amazon supports ecological activities and implements solar systems and renewable energy to its daily process and considers using electric cars for transportation purposes.

We highly recommend combination with visit in nearby Glass factory in Nizbor (paid extra) to see alternative image of small local company with handwork tradition in contrast to big corporate company represented by Amazon. Nizbor visit also includes ECO topic as local employees use recycled materials and old fashioned techniques including nature gifts. Visit in Glass factory in Nizbor is possible also without visit in Amazon.

JOHANN W winery in Třebívlice is a beautiful, modern winery that produces wine that embodies hundreds of years of the Litoměřice vineyards history. It perfectly combines old-fashion procedures of making wine with modern technologies and logistics. And because it is newly build, it offers fantastic space for groups who want to taste wine and find out about the process of making this wonderful drink.

Tours are planned as so-called paths of the wine – you will have the unique opportunity to become a winemaker and participate in the whole wine production process, starting with receiving the grapes up to bottling the wine. Everything will take place in a state of the art winery using the latest modern technologies in combination with careful work with the hands and a love for winemaking itself. You will also uncover the secret love story between Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Třebívlice Baroness Ulrike von Levetzow, to which the JOHANN W brand is dedicated.

Tours are recommended for adult groups, but are suitable also for students, because wine tasting can be exchanged for stum tasting - degustation of drink made of fruit and vegetable like apple (different kinds), pear, beetroot, strawberry or carrot.

All ingrediences come from local farmers, therefore the quality of drinks and meals is superb. Including lunch or dinner menus, which are based on hundred years old recipes. It is no coincidence that Johann W winery was also visited by Czech President himself.

    Sustainability at Joy Bakery

Lecture on a sustainable bakery in Prague. The lecture takes 1 hour and is given by the Danish owner of Joy Bakery in Prague: https://www.joy-bakery.cz/. After a brief introduction by the owner and thoughts about the bakery, the lecture will mainly revolve around sustainability. After the lecture, there will be an opportunity for questions.

    What is a sustainable bakery?:

A sustainable bakery is a company committed to producing delicious breads and pastries in a way that is gentle on both the environment and society. This involves a variety of actions focused on reducing the ecological footprint and promoting social responsibility.

First, a sustainable bakery uses organic ingredients grown without the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers. This protects soil quality and biodiversity and reduces the risk of contamination.

We will hear about how Joys Bakery selects local suppliers, which reduces transport distances and reduces CO2 emissions. This also supports the local community and promotes economic sustainability. Joy Bakery also strives to minimize food waste by donating surplus food to charities or turning leftovers into new products such as croutons or breadcrumbs.

Finally, Joys Bakery uses energy-efficient appliances and renewable energy sources, helping to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint. A sustainable bakery is not only good for the environment, it is also a healthy business, as more consumers today choose products that are made with consideration for the planet and the community.

    Info about the lecture itself:

The lecture itself takes approx. 60 min and then there is an opportunity to ask questions. After the lecture, the group will visit Joys Bakery and we will offer a piece of pastry. It is possible to buy a cup of coffee, a bread or a piece of cake on the spot.

    Štěchovice Hydroelectric Power Station

The Štěchovice I hydroelectric power station was the second built piece of the Vltava Cascade (1938-1944). The dam is 22.5 m high, 120 m long and has five overflow fields.

Its reservoir has a capacity of 11.2 million m³ of water and serves mainly to balance outflow from the top Slapy power plant. The plant is equipped with two Kaplan turbine sets. It is one of the most important technical buildings commenced during the First Republic.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Vltava River was widely used for both rafting and classic navigation. Mainly wood, stone and salt were transported. At that time, the first projects for the construction of two high dams at Slapy and Orlík were created. The first two waterworks of the cascade, Vrané and Štěchovice, were built just with regard to navigation purposes.

The visit starts with two short films about water energy and the Vltava Cascade. Furthermore, the group gets a lot of interesting information about the plant and its history.

    Waste sorting tour

On this tour we will visit Dekra, a sorting site for metal and paper. It is very exciting to learn how the metal and paper waste is handled and prepared for the next step. The site is running by gas.

We will start in the collection yard, then the metal packaging sorter and finally the paper sorter. All the commodities can be seen in the yard, including some big containers for TV screens and PC monitors, that are sorted and transported to other sites. Residual waste and plastic is transported to a refuse disposal plant. It will be shown how the truck drivers are able to handle and sort big amounts of raw material.

In the big halls we will see the sorting line for metal waste, where iron cans are separated from aluminium cans and sent on for recycling. We will continue to the separated paper sorting line, where the paper is sorted into different types of paper and pressed into bales for transport to the paper mill.

The waste management system in Prague can be explained, f. ex. the decisions about how to handle the waste. It is also possible to learn about the waste transportation system all over Prague.
