Lovosice (ending in Prague)

5 days program for groups focused on the Elbe with Dresden and Prague

Day 1:

Airport arrival, one hour transfer to hotel Lev in Lovosice.

3-course dinner in the hotel incl. one drink.

Day 2:

Before noon we drive a short way to the cosy, small town of Litoměřice. We will have a short city tour, starting on the central square, where we will explain about the the underground corridors just under the square. From there we will have a short walk to the cathedral and the residence of the bishop. We will talk about Czech religion. Then we go bach to the square for a cup of coffee in one of the nice cafés.

After that we enter the bus and go to the village Žernoseky to visit a nice, small wine castle, which originates from the 13. century. Wine is grown on 31 hectares – especially white wine, as we are pretty far to the north. We will be shown around in the old, original wine cellars. On the tour we go up hill, because the wine cellars are built into a hill. On the tour we will se the enormous barrels made from oak wood, some of them are still in use. We will pass the chapel, where the monks earlier held the Masses. Finally we come to a several km long natural ventilation shaft, which still today cool down the cellars.

Then we go to one of the saloons in the castle to enjoy a two-course lunch accompanied by a wine casting. We will have six different wines from the castle, mostly white wines, as 80 pct of the production is white wine. We will probably also try some red wine. After lunch it is possible to buy the wines in the wine shop.

We will be back in the hotel in the middle of the afternoon.

Day 3:

Early in the morning we drive to Dečin and go on board on the boat to sail to Bad Schandau in Germany. The tour will last almost two hours and we will serve you coffee and cake. We will pass impressing and beautiful forests and cliffs in the Bohemian Switzerland. In Bad Schandau we go by the bus to Dresden, which is also called the Firenze of the Elbe. In Dresden we will make a short city walk in the Old Town, among others we will pass the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger and the Semper-opera. Then we offer you lunch in a very nice middle age restaurant. Finally there will be some free time in Dresden until we drive back to the hotel.

Day 4:

After breakfast we go to Duchcov to visit the fine castle, which is mainly known because Casanova lived there for the last 13 years of his life. The castle was built by a famous Czech noble family, Waldstejn. First part of the tour in the castle will tell us about the family and we will see many pieces of art, hunting weapons, music instruments and porcelain. Not least there are a lot of curiosities, collected in foreign countries by different members of the family. In the second part of the exhibition we will visit the rooms of the charmeur, crook and spy Casanova. He had spent his fortune, so he accepted the offer to be a librarian in the castle. He was pretty bored, so he had plenty of time to write his extensive, romantic memoires.

Then we go to Teplice to the micro brewery Monopol. First we will we have a show around to see where the malt is boiled and sugar set free, then we go the basement with the fermentation vessels, where the sugar is converted into alcohol. We will also visit the lagertanks, where the beer matures, and the small filling station. We will show you the ingredients for the beer, too.

Then it is time to have a two-course lunch in the brewery restaurant, this includes of course a couple of samples of the tasty beer.

Day 5:

After breakfast we go to Prague to have a city tour in the Old Town. We will pass the Old Town Square with the famous Astronomical Clock, the Jewish Area with the Old Cemetary and the Charles Bridge. Finally we will have a two hour boat trip on Moldau. This includes an aperitiv, a big buffet and a drink. We will sail under the Charles Bridge and have a nice view of the Prague Castle and numerous other nice buildings.

Transfer to the airport.

Other possible excursions: The Skoda factories, Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) or Hřensko.

On board the bus or during dinners we will give some small lectures about the Czech history in the 20th century, Czech religion, Czech language, the Christmas dinner, having carp, the spilt up of Czechoslovakia in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the political situation, and not least information about the social system concerning maternity leave, education system, salaries, taxes, rent, unemployment rate, health system and retirement.
