Žižkov TV tower

See Prague's true face on this special and different trip to Žižkov, the city's most authentic and alternative district with Prague's tallest construction TV tower.

We start the trip by going up to the Vitkov hill where the world's largest equestrian statue Jan Žižka is. The statue weighs 16.5 tons and stands on the national memorial where the legionaries from the First World War were to be honored. The Nazis used it as a warehouse, the Communist Party used it as propaganda and many top communists were buried here.

Here you can enjoy one of the best view over Prague.

The Žižkov district is located behind the main railway station. The neighbourhood was separated from the centre of Prague and had its own independence for many years. The area is often called the “Free Republic Žižkov”. Tall and dense houses were built on steep streets to accommodate as many people as possible, today it gives a very special look and distinctive working environment. We walk through the narrow streets up to the famous TV tower.

Žižkov TV tower was built between 1985 and 1992 and has been given the title of the world's second ugliest building. But the TV tower is also an impressive postmodern architectural design, with the large baby statues crawling up the sides. The tower is 216 meters high and is Prague's tallest building. We take the elevator up to the observation room at 96 meters altitude and enjoy the panoramic view of the city. We end the trip with a refreshment at the café in the TV tower and enjoy the breathtaking views over the whole of Prague.

You can walk from the centre to Žižkov or take public transport.
