Second Wold War in Prague

We would like to present the "World War II in Prague" tour with a English-speaking guide. This new and exciting tour covers the period before, during, and after the occupation of Czechoslovakia from 1939 to 1945.

On this tour, we will visit some of the most important sites connected with World War II. You will learn about the Allied defeat in 1938, the heroic struggle of Czech Royal Air Force pilots in Terezín, Sir Nicholas Winton's rescue of 669 Jewish children from the Nazis, the final days of the occupation, and the Red Army's entry into Prague. Last but not least, you will also learn about the brave Czech paratroopers who were flown in from England to carry out the assassination of the notorious and dangerous SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich.

The tour begins with a visit to the Petřík Palace. The building belonging to the Jewish banker Julius Petschka served as the Gestapo headquarters. In the building's basement, you will learn more about this place's dark past. We continue our tour, visiting buildings and sites connected to World War II. Finally, we reach Resslova Street. Here, in the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, we learn about the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich and the seven paratroopers who were hidden in the church's crypt after the attack.

On the night of June 18-19, 1942, the paratroopers defended themselves for several hours against hundreds of SS soldiers. During the fighting in the crypt, the phrase "the Czechs will not surrender" was heard. The assassination and the Nazis' horrific reprisals are among the most significant events of World War II.

Liberation took place on May 9, and the last fighting occurred on May 11, 1945.
